I have recently been converted from Pony Diffusion to Illustrious for a number of reasons but mostly because I feel that in many cases, the character recognition without the use of Loras is better in Illustrious. But I had no proof until now, so here is a list of a ton of characters and whether on not they are recognized by Pony and Illustrious. I will also keep a running total at the top so that you can easily see the results of my experimenting. Obviously I can't test every character ever but I will try to do as many as I can. For each character, I will list their name and the an P for Pony and an I for Illustrious colored to either red, yellow, or green. Red meaning that the model does not seem to know the character, green meaning that the model knows the character well, and yellow being partial recognition but not great or requiring a fair amount of additional prompting to work. Hope you find this resource helpful! If you are looking for a specific character, I highly reccomend using "ctrl+f" on pc or "cmd+f" on mac.
"♦" symbol is my way of tracking what series are done testing and added to the running total.
Usage Note: The standard way to prompt a character is using booru tags which are formatted like "character_(series)". Some people believe that the parenthesis around the series adds weight to it so they write their prompt like "character \(series\)"... According to other information that I found, the way that the clip tokenizer works in stable diffusion doesn't actually process punctuation so it all gets processed as "character series" regardless? Idk, I usually use booru tags but you guys can figure it out.
